Aime CHAREST (Canada)
After graduating in 1967, I started sailing for a while on coastal and F-G canadian ships. Afterwards, I sailed on many foreign ships, always on F-G voyages and as a free-lancer. Between some of these ships, I worked on canadian C/S including one in the canadian Arctic. I also tried a few canadian Coast Guard ice-breakers and later on two cruise-ships under convenient flags. I even was in the Canadian Auxilliary Navy for a short period of time. All this expanded on 26 years at sea until 1993. It was with deep regret I gave up sailing for then I couln’t find out any embarkment: no more F-G canadian ships and/or a too poor pay on foreign flags. I’ve been retired since with a big nostalgia of that so happy pediod of my life. I’m writing a book about all this that is almost completed by now.
