Richard FREEDLAND (USA)

My name is Richard Freedland.  I started sailing in 1967, when I was just 19 years old.  I believe that makes me the youngest radio officer in the U.S. merchant marine, since the minimum age was 19.  I retired when my ship (SS Chief Gadao/WEZD) was laid up in 2006, and I am now enjoying a life of leisure in sunny Miami.  (You and any other ex-sparkies are welcome to visit me anytime!)
The photo above was taken aboard my first ship, SS Export Buyer/KCAO in August 1967.
