Special MRD station – Lands End Radio c/s GLD

During the next MRD the following crew will be active on the air with the special callsign GB0GLD to commemorate the famous coast radio station of Lands End Radio – GLD: John – G3XRJ, David – G3RID, Clive – G3WMX

The BT Coastal Station Lands End Radio closed 30th June 2000.  GLD came on the air in 1901 from Lizard radio and transferred to Lands End in 1913.
Lands End Radio closed it’s 500kHz MF CW service on 31st December 1997 and has the distinction of handling the last distress message on 500kHz to be handled by a United Kingdom Coastal Station,  although the station was remotely controlled from Stonehaven Radio.
